The Chhattisgarh government has received national recognition for its outstanding performance in implementing the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) scheme, securing an award from the Union Ministry of Mines. The accolade highlights the state’s commitment to sustainable development in mining-affected regions through transparent governance and efficient fund utilisation.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy presented the award to P. Dayanand, Secretary to the Chief Minister and Mines Secretary, during the National DMF Workshop held in New Delhi. Chhattisgarh was commended for maintaining over 90% compliance in uploading audit reports and project data to the National DMF Portal—a key initiative under the Prime Minister’s Mineral Development Welfare Programme.

Reddy praised Chhattisgarh as a “leading example” in DMF execution, urging other states to adopt its transparency measures and data-driven approach. “The state’s systematic monitoring and community-focused planning have set a benchmark,” he said.
Dayanand attributed the success to collaborative efforts between district administrations and local stakeholders. “Our priority has been ensuring that DMF funds directly benefit mining-affected communities through need-based projects,” he stated.
So far, Chhattisgarh has approved 1,01,313 projects worth ₹16,506 crore under the DMF, with 70,318 completed. These include schools, healthcare centres, water supply systems, and livelihood initiatives. Notably, security forces have played a pivotal role in facilitating project execution in remote, conflict-prone areas, building on past successes in ensuring safe and timely development work.
The workshop saw participation from senior officials across mining states, with Chhattisgarh’s delegation, including Director Rajat Bansal and district collectors, showcasing its participatory planning model. “By aligning projects with local needs and the new five-year prospective plan, we are ensuring long-term impact,” said Kunal Dudavat, District Collector of Dantewada.
With this recognition, Chhattisgarh reinforces its position as a pioneer in equitable mineral welfare governance. The state’s emphasis on accountability and inclusive growth offers a replicable framework for other regions grappling with mining-related challenges.
